During the unprecedented times of the COVID-19 pandemic, Hartland International School recognised the challenges posed to student engagement and well-being. In response, the school implemented a series of innovative strategies to ensure that learning remained dynamic and interactive, even from a distance.

Library Live! Sessions

Understanding the importance of reading for pleasure, our librarian initiated ‘Library Live!’ sessions. Utilising our school’s Microsoft Teams platform, she conducted daily 20-minute read-aloud sessions for different year groups. This initiative not only promoted literacy but also provided a comforting routine for students during uncertain times. The sessions were interactive, allowing students to engage in discussions and share their thoughts, fostering a sense of community and continuity.

Integrating the Arts

Recognising the therapeutic and educational value of the arts, we incorporated painting and music into our virtual curriculum. Students participated in art projects that encouraged them to express their emotions and experiences during lockdown. Additionally, virtual music lessons were conducted, allowing students to continue their musical education and explore new instruments. These creative outlets were essential in maintaining students’ emotional well-being and provided a balanced approach to remote learning.

Parental Involvement

We believe that education is a collaborative effort between the school and families. During lockdown, parents played a crucial role in supporting their children’s learning. We provided resources and guidance to help parents facilitate art and music activities at home, strengthening the home-school connection and ensuring that students received comprehensive support. Schools Compared

Commitment to Holistic Education

At Hartland International School, we are committed to providing a holistic education that nurtures all aspects of a student’s development. Our lockdown initiatives were designed to uphold this commitment, ensuring that students continued to receive a well-rounded education despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. By integrating arts into our virtual learning environment, we maintained our dedication to fostering creativity, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence in our students.

These efforts reflect our school’s resilience and adaptability, ensuring that our students remained engaged, inspired, and connected during a time of physical distancing.
