With a diverse and global community, the richness of language learning remains an important feature of our school. Offering four language options in total in addition to English and Arabic, our children begin their language learning journey from Year 3 of the Primary phase.
In the primary phase of the school, we offer French or Spanish for students in Year 3 and French, Spanish, German or Mandarin for students in Year 4, 5 and 6.
In the secondary phase, students choose 2 languages from these options. These languages are taught as a second language, but we do try to accommodate first language learners where possible. In Year 9, students choose to specialize in one of the two only as they begin to prepare for the GCSE. We encourage students to retain the study of a language through into the GCSE course options, but it is not a compulsory feature of the school in Year 10.
All of our language programmes aim to improve the students’ language learning skills by developing their proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, writing and performing whilst harnessing the diversity of the student body. There is a direct link to global and cultural awareness as part of the school’s overarching curriculum and our language programme further supports the possibilities for cultural exchange and overseas trips.
